A MAN who attacked a police constable with a baseball bat during a remembrance service was today ordered to be detained in a mental hospital.
Adam Culshaw, 21, "launched himself" from a monument, hitting the Chief Constable of Merseyside's personal driver directly on the head with the baseball bat, Liverpool Crown Court was told.
Pc Ray Colvin, an officer with 31 years' service, said "he felt a forceful blow" to the back of his head, but was wearing a helmet, which appeared to take most of the impact.
The attack happened on November 9 last year in St John's Gardens, Liverpool, during the traditional two-minute silence.
