NOT a month goes by, without the BEN quite appropriate printing and article, photographs, reader's letters etc about Bolton's litter problem.
It is too easy to blame the council for the problem, although I must admit I sometimes feel they could do better in cleaning up the litter. The culprits are clearly the litter louts.
Obviously the laws of the land are inadequate in dealing with them. Other European countries have the relevant legislation, why not Great Britain?
I recently asked what our local MPs, council officials, councillors, and local politicians were doing about the lack of suitable legislation that would result in little louts being suitably punished. No one replied! The obvious reason is that every one of them is doing precisely nothing on the issue. Every one of them should be ashamed of themselves. I certainly am!
Incidentally, can I nominate Regent's Walk, Farnworth, as the most litter-strewn part of Greater Bolton? The walk is a very well used path, traffic free, to Farnworth town centre. I thought I would try an experiment. On September 1, I spotted a thank you card lying in the bushes. I dated it, signed it, and placed it back under the bushes. I check frequently and it is still there. The vandalised street sign has also laid on the grass for months.
