THE families of crime victims have listed a number of key measures they would like to see put in place.
Most people find it hard to cope with the death of a family member.
The delegation lobbying Prime Minister Tony Blair hope the Government will:
Fund trauma therapy for victims of homicidal crime, counselling those who find it difficult to cope with pre-trial issues, those who may be upset over a trial's verdict and those who need help in the years following the crime
Inform and create public and professional awareness in dealing with victims of crime so that the family is not blamed, stigmatised or isolated by the community, legal process, media and local government departments
Provide assessment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a matter of course so problems can be identified early
Educate victims to understand the effects of trauma
Appoint a Minister for Victims to change attitudes, values, traditions or laws.
The families hope the Government will provide a similar level of victim service provision as that offered to asylum seekers.
