SAM Allardyce is asking his Reebok bosses to dig deep one last time in his bid to buy Wanderers a ticket to Premiership survival.

The manager has persuaded his directors to sanction the deals that have brought high earners, Fredi Bobic and Youri Djorkaeff, to Bolton. Now he wants them to get the cheque book out again for Real Madrid centre-back Ramos Ivan Campo.

As the Bolton Evening News exclusively revealed last week, Allardyce has earmarked the 27-year-old Spanish international as the defender he wants to put the finishing touch to his squad.

Subsequently he confirmed his interest but now, with Simon Charlton adding to his injury problems after limping out of the scoreless draw at Southampton, he sees it as a matter of urgency that he gets him on board.

Allardyce says the money is available and only needs the green light from chairman Phil Gartside to press ahead and secure his sixth signing in seven weeks.

Charlton was disappointed to have to pull out of Saturday's game against his former club just before half time. Early checks suggested he has damaged a hamstring attachment behind his knee and could be out for two weeks.

Sam's cash plea

"I've got my fingers crossed that it will calm down in three or four days and won't be too serious," the full-back said hopefully.

"I've had a problem with the same knee for a while but it doesn't seem to be connected - unless the physio says otherwise when I see him."

Allardyce hopes to have Per Frandsen and Paul Warhurst available for Saturday's Reebok showdown with local relegation rivals Blackburn but he can ill afford a manpower shortage in a defence, which he sees as crucial to his survival ambitions.

Charlton underlined the significance of the fixture, adding: "Saturday's a huge game and I really hope my knee settles down quickly because it will be all hands to the pump."
