IN December, I printed a number of "mystery" pictures sent to me by Mrs Marjorie Maddocks, of Macclesfield, which she thought had been taken in the Bolton area, but did not know where.
One of them was of a house by a canal, and Mrs Margaret Fletcher, Chairman of the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal Society, identified it as having been taken at the upper lock at Giants Seat, near Ringley.
Mrs Maddocks has now contacted me to say that Mr Alf Bryden, who lived in the house as a child in the 1930s, also contacted her.
"My husband and I visited him recently and he took us on a conducted tour having identified quite a few of my pictures," writes Mrs Maddocks.
"He also arranged a visit to Mrs Owen, the present owner of Locke House, to whom we were most grateful for her kind hospitality in showing us the property as it is today."
So thanks to everyone concerned. I am glad that Looking Back helped solve another mystery . . .
