THE metric martyrs have had very expensive scales confiscated at the start of their fight to be allowed to sell food by the Imperial system.

Is it beyond the ingenuity of man and the scale manufacturers to produce a scale showing both Imperial and Metric measures? This scale could, for a nominal sum, be placed in the machine and calibrated as per the Weights and Measures standards. On return to the trader, customers could then be able to order in pounds and ounces and the trader announce the weight in Metric, together with the price that is the same in both systems.
