READING the story about Norman waving, (BEN February 20), reminded me of when I used to go to work along Heaton Avenue.
An old lady and I used to exchange waves. She too sat at her window.
One morning she was stood at her gate. I think she was waiting for me because, when I reached her, she stopped me and said "whenever you see me outside, will you always speak to me please -- I'm so lonely!"
The next day I took her a bunch of flowers for which she was so grateful.
I never knew her name or anything about her but I have never forgotten her.
