A GENEROUS 12-year-old has organised a charity night to help a little girl who suffers from serious health problems.
Brett Ratcliff is keen to raise as much money as possible to help Jayne Mortimer, aged six, who was born with part of her brain missing and suffers from epilepsy and a short attention span.
The Westhoughton High School pupil, who won Horwich Asda's Children's Local Hero contest last year, is a well-known fund-raiser thanks to his tireless efforts to help all sorts of people in need.
He often helps to raise money for Ladybridge Primary School, where his disabled brother Rhys is a pupil. Brett, of Thorn Well, has done his bit to help Jayne by sponsoring Westhoughton Carnival Royalty's selection night.
The plucky lad is providing a DJ, dancers and has organised a raffle for the evening which will be held at Greenfield Private Members Club in Wigan Road on March 22.
Jayne's parents, Simon and Beverley, will put the charity money towards the cost of kitting out a special lights room for her. Jayne, of Chorley Old Road, responds well to light stimulation and is already benefiting from the fibre optics, projector and bubble tube which have been installed in the room.
Her parents are also hoping to buy her a replacement swing after she outgrew her last one.
Beverley said: "I think it's lovely that Brett has taken this upon himself. He is very kind and determined for a boy of his age.
"Jayne is not so well at the moment and is having three or four seizures per day. We've had to stop her horse riding and swimming for the time being, but we are very lucky because she can walk, talk and hear and plenty of other children can't do that." Brett's mother, Gaynor, said: "He's so confident. I think he'll be the next Richard Branson. Brett just rings companies up, asks for their help for free and they always agree. He is always so busy, I need a diary to keep up!"
Brett said: "I thought if I could raise money to help my brother, I could do the same for Jayne." Admission to the charity night, which starts at 7.30pm, will be free.
