Horwich Leisure Centre Swimming Club narrowly failed to repeat last year's
victory in the Bolton & District Relay Competition at Horwich
pool last Saturday.
This annual competition comprises sixteen events,
featuring freestyle and medley team relays for both boys and girls in four
different age groups from 11 years and under upto 16 years and over, and
attracts the top teams from all the local swimming clubs.
Despite first places in all four of the 12-13 year old races and the senior
boys' competition, and excellent swims from all their other teams, Horwich
could not recover from the loss of points when their 14-15 year old boys
team were disqualified after they had cruised to easy wins in both their
events.
"We were disappointed to lose in this way but relays are about split second
starts and changeovers and sometimes the referee's decisions go against
you", said a club spokesman.
