Wakes Weeks
ONCE again parents are being castigated for taking their children out of school during term time in order to take holidays.
Perhaps it was not a good idea after all by the Government to do away with what we call in the North 'the wakes weeks fortnight ' - a government idea foisted upon us for economic reasons.
But I ask at what cost?
Wakes weeks began around the beginning of June and ran through to August, each town taking their fortnight - I presume this may have been a national action because whenever we went to Anglesey there was always someone there from Birmingham too.
Usually if you went abroad in June, your holiday was cheaper, less crowded and not too hot, now we are all lumped together like animals in August when it is too expensive, too crowded and too hot.
