ARTIST Dean Hughes has been commissioned to produce new work for the Turnpike Gallery, Leigh.
Hughes works with familiar objects such as paper, masking tape, gumstrip and bus tickets. He often uses A4 paper or card, repositioning lines, the margin and punched holes, making incisions across the whole sheet, or pushing through unused staples.
His aim is to show creativity while maintaining a sense of the absurd. Hughes will also be presenting an exhibition of photographs, which includes the depiction of an embroidery of a bus seat and a picture of the sky from a photo booth.
The controversial artist will be discussing his work in the exhibition on Saturday, March 16 at 2pm. Admission is free. His exhibition runs until April 6.
These works are documents of intimate activities such as his embroidery of a bus seat, a picture of the sky from a photo booth, or a photograph of puddles he has re-filled on days when it did not rain.
