THREE people were injured after an accident on a stretch of road dubbed an accident blackspot by anxious neighbours.

Residents in Lever Edge Lane, Bolton, are now calling for action to slow down the speed of cars travelling along the road.

The call followed an accident last night when two cars were involved in a head-on crash in the road. One of the cars then smashed through the wall of a front garden.

Homeowner David Steven said the accident was the latest in a constant stream of road accidents on the road.

Police are appealing for witnesses to yesterday's crash, which happened at 3pm.

Three people were taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital with minor injuries.

The incident involved a Mazda driven by Eileen Hole, of Hope Hey Lane, Little Hulton.

The second car, a Fiat, was driven by Cynthia Patel, of Girvan Close, Morris Green, Bolton. A passenger in the car, Shirley Leahair, of Lavender Road, Farnworth, was also injured.

Mr Steven said: "The council needs to do something about traffic on this road. There are far too many accidents. It's only a matter of time before someone is killed."

Any witnesses to the accident are asked to contact the Bolton Police traffic unit tel: 0161 856 5972.
