SOCCER star Gary Neville has helped launch a scheme to encourage fathers to take an interest in their sons' education.
The Bradshaw-based Manchester United and England defender gave his support to the Government initiative, together with his brother Phil and dad Neville, at its launch in Manchester yesterday.
Gary, aged 27, said: "Sport has always played a huge role in our family and right from day one dad got us involved. "Dads can really influence their sons by taking an interest in their education and hobbies. This not only improves their performance at school, but creates a healthy atmosphere at home."
Also at the launch of the Dads and Sons -- A Winning Team campaign, was the Minister for Young People and Learning, Ivan Lewis.
He said the public was always hearing about boys underachieving at school, while girls excelled, and it was vital to redress the balance.
He added: "A positive learning environment at home, as well as a strong role model in their dad, can make a world of difference."
A hint and tips booklet has been published and can be picked up from branches of Asda, Comet, William Hill, Moto service stations, Warner Village cinemas and Pontins. Copies can be ordered on 0845 6022260.
