THE tragic events of the Burnden Disaster of 1946 will be remembered next Saturday when the commemorative plaque, originally placed at the scene of the tragedy, will be re-sited - 56 years to the day since 33 people were killed at the Embankment end of the old stadium.

The plaque, which was taken down when Wanderers left Burnden Park in April 1997, will be unveiled again on the site of the old stadium at the Big W superstore.

Relatives and friends of the victims and members of the public have been invited to join club representatives, including president Nat Lofthouse, and other former players in paying respect to those who tragically lost their lives on the afternoon of the 6th round FA Cup tie between Wanderers and Stoke City.

The unveiling ceremony will take place at 10.30.

A Book of Remembrance has been opened, listing the names of the victims of that and of other tragedies involving Wanderers' supporters, which can be viewed at the club's Visitor Centre at the Reebok Stadium up to the home game against Derby on Saturday, March 16.
