POLICE are hunting two thugs who carried out a race attack during a Gala Day at Haugh Hall Country Park.
Two men, aged 37 and 27, who work as consultants at Wigan Royal Infirmary were walking across the bridge over the canal which runs through the park when they were approached and assaulted by two male youths.
The first is described as 14-15yrs of age, approximately 5ft tall of thin build with short fair hair wearing a white Lacoste tracksuit.
The second male is said to have been between 15-19yrs of age, approximately 5'8" tall
of medium build wearing black clothing. He had a distinctive metallic bar through his left eyebrow which had a metallic ball at each end. The men also seemed to be with a girl who was wearing a pink top but she did not approach the men.
The consultants were not seriously injured but did require hospital treatment.
A police spokesperson said: "Haigh Hall Country Park was extremely busy yesterday due to the Gala Day so we are hopeful that these people will be identified and caught for the totally unprovoked attack on these two men. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and an investigation into the matter is underway."
The incident is being treated as a racially motivated attack and anyone who does have any information or saw two people matching these descriptions is asked to contact Wigan Police on 0161 856 7150 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
