THE body of a man found in a canal in Leigh has still not been identified.

The corpse was discovered at about 8.30am on Sunday under a bridge on St Helens Road, known locally as Leigh Bridge.

Police have made a renewed appeal to the public for help.

The man is described as white, 6ft, medium build, between 40 and 50 years of age with short, dark hair which is greying.

He was wearing a grey top with red under the collar and a red stripe across the front left side of the chest. It was emblazoned with the logo Mercedes Benz.

He was also dressed in blue trousers, brown shoes and dark socks.
