WHEN police caught burglar Terence Finnegan he was stuck halfway through a window and was asleep!
Officers found the 29-year-old with his arms and one leg inside the ground floor window of a house in Watford Close, Halliwell, Bolton.
They helped him untangle himself but had to handcuff him when he became aggressive.
Neighbours had alerted police when they saw Finnegan breaking into the house but through a combination of drink and drugs, he had fallen asleep while trying to climb in through the window which he had smashed.
Finnegan, aged 29, of St James Street, Heywood, appeared at Bolton Crown Court for sentence and admitted burglary and failing to surrender.
Recorder Karen Hughes adjourned the case until May 31 so Finnegan could be assessed for a drug treatment and testing order. When interviewed, Finnegan said he could not remember anything about the incident.
He told them he had been drinking in Bolton with a group of friends and had consumed a litre bottle of wine and several cans of beer.
The court heard that Finnegan had eight burglary convictions as well as handling, theft, criminal damage and shoplifting offences.
Gary Reynolds, defending, said he had been upset because the day before he had lost a legal battle involving his nine-year-old son who has been put up for adoption.
