A POLICE officer used his baton to disarm knife-wielding Geoffrey Heapy, Bury magistrates were told.
Heapy, aged 22, who had consumed a cocktail of drink and amphetamines, refused to drop the eight inch kitchen knife when confronted by police.
One officer hit Heapy on the arm with his baton and he dropped the blade. He was then arrested.
Heapy, of Elm Street, Bury, pleaded guilty to making threats to kill a police officer, carrying an offensive weapon and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. He was given an 18-month community rehabilitation order which will involve attending a Think First programme.
