FRED O'Donoghue had been out of sight for a few weeks but was certainly not out of Sam Allardyce's mind as Wanderers prepared to celebrate on Monday night.
The 74-year-old scout, recuperating from a major operation, was "treated like a lord" as the manager's special guest at the Arsenal game.
"Sam rang and asked me what I was doing," Fred said. "I've only been out of hospital 10 weeks so I was staying home but he got me to the game and into the directors' suite.
"I've known him 20 or 30 years and he hasn't changed. He walks with kings these days but he has never lost the common touch.
"I just hope I can still be of some use to Bolton Wanderers and to Big Sam."
