IT seems the whole country is preparing for the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations -- and none more so than one 87-year-old Harwood woman.

Jenny Humphreys has been busy knitting red, white and blue rosettes for her friends and neighbours to wear at their street party.

The intricate lace-edged roses have proved so popular, Jenny has to work overtime to keep up with the orders.

"It keeps me busy," she says modestly, "I'd go mad if I didn't have anything to do.

"I had a stroke a while back and, before that I was always doing things to help other people. Now I'm limited with what I can do so knitting keep my hands and mind occupied."

Jenny has already made more than 50 rosettes -- one football fan is taking hers to wear at the World Cup in Japan -- and she reckons she will make a lot more before the Jubilee weekend in June.

"I suppose it takes me about half an hour to make each rosette and I spend most of the day making them."

However, when the Jubilee celebrations are over, Jenny's knitting needles will continue to click. She makes a variety of dolls, Easter chicks, tissue box holders and Christmas trees for family and friends.
