FIREFIGHTERS in Hindley are asking people to stop dumping rubbish in Hall Lane after a bag of asbestos was set alight.

The disused country track has become a tip for unwanted items such as car tyres and toxic products like asbestos. A brigade spokesman said: "It makes our job more difficult. Asbestos is toxic and the dust from it is cancerous, which is a danger to firemen involved in dealing with it."
