A GLOBE-trotting Bury student will jet off on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to Argentina later this summer thanks to Lancashire brewers Daniel Thwaites.
Sixteen-year-old Collette Chambers, of Holcombe, who attends Holy Cross Sixth Form College, will head off to South America in late July for a two-week trip sponsored by the renowned Thwaites' Travel Scholarship.
Thwaites have funded the Travel Scholarship, run in conjunction with the Experiment for International living, for 43 years.
Under the supervision of group leaders Sirin Dasu and Nina Phillips, the group will leave from Manchester Airport on July 23 and return on August 8.
As well as seeing much of the impressive scenery, the youngsters will spend time living and working alongside families in the capital, Buenos Aires, and the province of Sante Fe.
They will also play an active role in local community projects and environmental campaigns.
Thwaites President John Yerburgh -- great great grandson of Daniel Thwaites and founder of the Travel Scholarship -- believes the scheme is a vital step in developing cultural attitudes among young people.
"Hundreds of young people from our region have benefited since the Travel Scholarship was first launched.
"They have enjoyed hands-on experience which encourages them to appreciate
and respect cultures from all over the world.
"Argentina is the latest in a long line of faraway and exotic countries visited through the Travel Scholarship and I feel sure it will prove another resounding success."
