AS a Blue Badge Holder, I felt I had to write in response to the endless stream of letters appearing on your Letters page, all be-moaning how unfair and unsympathetic the traffic wardens of Bolton are.
The fact of the matter is, they are NOT unfair or unsympathetic, they are simply doing their job, which also involves checking the details of Badges displayed. Therefore, if a Badge is displayed photo-side up, how on earth are they supposed to check this, unless, of course, they are expected to scour the streets until they find someone who looks like the photo?
Likewise, if a Badge is displayed upside-down, are they expected to perform hand-stands in order to read it? It is ridiculous.
The onus of the correct display procedure lies wholly with the owner of the Badge, and it is up to that owner to be fully aware of this procedure. After all, how many of you would buy self-assembly furniture and try to assemble it without reading the correct procedure?
So, to all those people who have received tickets from our "unfair and unsympathetic" Wardens, can I say, it is YOU who are being unfair by making their job harder.
I have had my Badge since 1997, and I have been issued with ONE ticket -- and, YES, it was in Bolton -- three days after I had moved here as a stranger, but I didn't complain "that I didn't know the area". I was in the wrong and paid up. So, please, let's change the record.
