STIG Tofting was looking for a helping hand from Wanderers on Saturday as he prepared to step up his World Cup preparations.
The Denmark midfielder has secured a place in Morten Olsen's squad for Japan and Korea but needs to prove he is fully recovered from the foot injury that has kept him out of the last seven Premiership games.
If not, he could find himself jettisoned when Olsen lodges his final 23 with FIFA on May 21.
Tofting has trained this week and was lined up for a comeback game at West Ham on Saturday afternoon but, if he suffers any adverse reaction, he might not be jetting out ton Sunday to team up with his international teammates in Copenhagen as planned.
Olsen has put a number of players on standby but he desperately wants Tofting, who joined Wanderers in a £250,000 transfer from SV Hamburg in March, to continue his central midfield partnership with Everton's Thomas Gravesen.
The Denmark coach is certainly keen to see the Bolton man prove his fitness, judging by his calls to Sam Allardyce this week.
"He's asked me to give Stig a game and, from a World Cup point of view, I'm happy to help him," the Wanderers' boss explained.
"If he's fit enough he will play but I don't see him getting a full game."
