AN 89-YEAR-OLD pensioner was attacked by conmen who tricked their way into her home and stole cash.
She suffered facial bruises after struggling with two men who claimed to be water board officials inside her home in Leigh Road, Howe Bridge, Atherton.
The incident came a day after 74-year-old Frank Bible collapsed and died after conmen claiming to be water board workers stole cash from his home in Mill Street, Bromley Cross.
The woman, who has not been named, let the first man inside on Thursday after he claimed to be investigating a burst water main.
A second man, claiming to be a colleague, then knocked on the door. But the first conman grabbed the pensioner and covered her mouth after she had let him in. She was taken to the living room and pushed into a chair while they searched the house for money. They escaped with a quantity of cash.
The first man is described as white, about 5ft 8in tall, aged between 20 and 30 years, broadly built with short brown hair.
The other man was white, of similar age, 5ft 6in tall, slim with short light brown hair. Anyone with information should call Leigh CID on 0161 856 7253 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
