A 63-YEAR-OLD grandfather who lured a 10-year-old back to his flat and indecently assaulted her has been jailed.

William Kelly, formerly of Tonge Moor, asked the schoolgirl to his flat before leading her upstairs and attempting to seduce her, Bolton Crown Court was told.

She had arrived at his home with some friends and it was claimed the defendant tried to ply them with drink.

Kelly was jailed for 12 months yesterday and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for the next 10 years.

Judge William Morris also imposed an extended licence for 15 months, beginning when he is released in six months' time so he can be monitored.

Kelly had befriended the girl and some of her friends and said he would give the 10-year-old £10 for her birthday if she came to his flat.

The girl arrived at his home with some friends and he said he would make them a drink. He called the girl into the kitchen and then took her into his bedroom.

He showed her a condom and lubricant and made sexually offensive remarks. While she sat on the bed, he indecently touched her.

The girl and her friends said that they saw Kelly pour large tots of rum into their drinks and then topped them up with coffee.

Maisie Burke, defending, said that Kelly had lost his home following the attack and was now living in a bail hostel.

His family had disowned him and he had lost his good name. He had led an isolated and lonely life and admitted being excited when making sexual remarks to the girl.

Judge William Morris said Kelly had clearly been sexually attracted to the girl but said an adult had a duty to protect young children.
