SAFETY at the junction of Moss Bank Way and Halliwell Road is an important issue and Cllr Hayes is right to be concerned at the Labour group's lack of serious action.
He is, however, somewhat narrow-minded in his ill-conceived solution to the problems.
The views of residents should be taken into account when proposing changes to speed limits, but don't forget the thousands of people who use the road. Shouldn't we ask their views as well, or has Cllr Hayes been infected with the Labour ailment of acute anti-motorist syndrome?
The real solution to the safety problem at this junction is, of course, to build a footbridge, and separate pedestrians from vehicles. Perhaps the council could use some of their new parking fines inheritance or council tax increase to fund it.
Let's try to think of innovative and workable solutions to important issues, instead of the council's normal simplistic view of the world.
