ORGANISERS of this year's Adlington Carnival are aiming to sign up teams of soccer loving boys and girls for the hugely popular summer show -- on the orders of Manchester United ace Ryan Giggs.
The Welsh wing wizard -- who lives in Adlington -- has generously sponsored a soccer tournament at the carnival for youngsters.
And he has made it clear to show bosses that his donation should go towards getting as many youngsters involved a possible.
Now organisers are appealing for kids in Chorley and beyond to get on the ball and join the fun.
Colin Prescott, carnival press officer, said: "When we originally took this up with Ryan he wanted as many kids as possible. He wants to promote the game of football and encourage youngsters to play.
"Basically he suggested under 11s and under 14s."
Colin explained that a former carnival committee member talked to the international winger about the tournament -- for the Adlington Carnival Ryan Giggs' Trophies -- and despite his commitments both on and off the soccer field, he was only too willing to help his adopted village.
"He's not that type of guy not to be interested," added Colin.
"The carnival is eternally grateful he is doing something very worthwhile and we hope we are doing something just what he wants us to do."
Colin added: "We'll probably introduce a girls' section, if there's a demand. We will be approaching schools, we want youngsters this side of Preston to Bolton."
Now sports management company C and A Sports, Railway Road, Chorley, have been drafted in to help boost the tournament.
Manager Chris Morris explained: "We are a company people bring in to manage tournaments.
"The youngsters shouldn't worry if they're not in a team, single players can be accommodated.
"All they need to do is give me a ring and I will send an information pack out."
The carnival takes place this year on August 9, 10 and 11. The final of the soccer tournament will be held on Sunday, August 11.
