TO celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee we asked our readers to send in photographs of their memorable moments and personal recollections of Queen Elizabeth. And the past 50 years of her reign have certainly provided Bolton people with some wonderful memories. Here is a selection of them...

MRS Joan Whittaker, from Kearsley, says: "It was 1939 and I was a conductor on the LUT Buses at Swinton. I was in Bolton that day to see Queen Elizabeth. She was with the mayor. I'm 82 now, yet I can still remember it clearly."

MR John Fielden, from Kearsley, recalls: "These two pictures were taken in, I think, 1998 when the Queen came to Bolton to open the revamped Market Hall.

"I had a day off work to see her and I took these pictures outside the train station -- you can see the sign over the Queen's head. The other picture is of local children presenting her posies."

MISS Barbara Williams is from Bolton. She says: "My mother, a friend and I were privileged to get passes to the Market Hall when the Queen and Prince Philip officially opened it in December 1998.

"As you can see, my mother was in a wheelchair. She presented the Queen with a bouquet of red roses when she came over to talk. I wrote a letter to Her Majesty afterwards and received a lovely reply from Buckingham Palace saying how much the Queen enjoyed her visit to Bolton.

"My mother, who was 84 then, has since died. She couldn't believe she had actually met the Queen and I know she treasured that day."

MRS Jane Bailey, from Bromley Cross, says: "I took this photograph in May 1968 when I was 10. It shows the Queen's car driving along Halliwell Road. She was going to look at some renovated cottages in St Paul's Place.

"I can't recall the main reason for her visit but I was at Chalfont Street CP School at the time and remember pupils from all the schools walking up Halliwell Road to occupy an allocated roadside space from where we all waved as the Queen passed by."

MRS Mildred Blackman is from Bolton. She remembers: "I was in London the Saturday after the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (the late Queen Mother).

"As was the practice, the Royal Family left Buckingham Palace to spend the weekend at Windsor Castle. I took the bus there, arriving early in the morning, and I saw them leave the church.

"I managed to photograph Princesses Elizabeth and the late Margaret, who were both dressed in pink."

MR Peters is from Bolton. He says: "This is a picture of the Royal Family taken at RAF Witchford near Cambridge. I believe it was taken close to D Day."

MRS Sheila Houghton is from Radcliffe. She remembers the day she met the Queen. "I was born in Daubhill -- on the Queen's birthday -- and I will remember the day I met her for as long as I live."

Sheila, who has battled with breast cancer, met the Queen when she opened the Metrolink in Bury in July 1992.

"I presented Her Majesty with a peach rose and was thrilled when she stopped to speak to me. I even appeared in the Bolton Evening News the following day."
