A FACE-recognition system which can recognise and track criminals from CCtv pictures is being launched today.
Tameside Council in Greater Manchester is behind the scheme and says it sends a clear message that criminals entering the borough will be closely watched.
The software can hold up to 10,000 photographs of criminals from home and abroad, and is monitored by trained officers 24 hours a day.
There are also hopes it could be used to help trace missing people.
