DEAN Holden could be set to cut his ties with Wanderers next week.
Oldham Athletic have confirmed they are close to sealing a deal for the former England Youth defender, who spent last season on loan at Boundary Park.
The clubs have opened talks and Latics chief executive, Alan Hardy, reckons: "We're making progress."
Holden, who played 26 games for The Latics and scored two goals, wants regular first-team football and he accepts his chances could be limited if he stays at The Reebok.
The Salford-born full-back, who was tipped to hit the heights with Wanderers before a broken leg kept him out of action for a year, said: "I enjoyed my time at Oldham and they are a great set of lads. The manager has told me that he wants to get something permanent sorted. I know they are desperate to get back into the First Division and there could be exciting times ahead."
Holden still has a year left on his Wanderers' contract and says, if the Oldham move does not come off, he will be happy to fight for his future at the Reebok. "I haven't heard anything yet, but I would be happy to go," he added.
"It would mean a chance of first team football - but if it doesn't work out, I will also be happy to dig deep and fight for a place at Bolton."
