I AM a weekly visitor to the Greenmount Residential Home on Chorley New Road.
A lovely building with an equally lovely staff.
I was shocked to learn that the home is shortly to close, no doubt to be demolished and the land built on. The residents will be moved elsewhere and the staff split up -- some of whom have worked together probably a number of years causing them great sadness.
I have watched the staff attending to the residents. They do it with so much care and tenderness. They are repaid by the love the old people give back to them. These carers are special. The elderly need them. Bolton needs them.
Why has this to happen? If the excuse is money, why can we build new homes for immigrants, yet demolish our residential homes for old people?
