I AM writing in agreement with the letter on the terrible abuse of the elderly.

You would think that the Government would be so appalled by these events that they would be seeking to put things right. It should be given top priority and an end put to it without further delay.

Since that letter was written, two more pensioners have died as a result of this cowardly thuggery. The culprits are bullies preying on the most vulnerable in our society.

Under these circumstances, and, although I am not a violent person, I would have no hesitation but to bring back the birch.

Let's start thinking of the victims, they should not be living their lives in fear. They fought for this country and its right to freedom, and yet they now find that the very ones they fought for are making them prisoners in their own homes, and even there they are not safe.

The attackers have choice as to whether or not they carry out these vile acts, the victims have none. If they choose to do it, they should pay the price.

It should not be tolerated and we should all be ashamed that it is happening within our midst.
