PUPILS will be transformed into mini health experts, thanks to a project which has won national acclaim.
A team from Bolton Primary Care Trust, Bolton Council's education department and voluntary groups have worked hard to be awarded the "Healthy Schools" standard.
Thanks to the recognition from the Government, the team will be able to give awards to Bolton schools which organise activities that promote the health and well-being of pupils. Schools will be encouraged to involve children, teaching and non-teaching staff and parents in projects such as breakfast clubs and health education classes.
Helen Johnson, the senior health promotion specialist co-ordinating the scheme, said: "Setting up a breakfast club in school might involve asking children what sort of provision they want, attracting parents to run it, finding a local business to provide supplies and staff promoting its use."
