Dorothy Naylor OBE, Chief Executive of the North West Tourist Board, was due to open Tameside's new tourism information centre.
It has modern equipment, making booking easier, and also acts as the entrance to the Setantil visitor attraction, which illustrates the area's history.
The centre will allow visitors to get both local and national tourism information and book travel.
