MALCOLM Pittock's letters drive me up the wall.

And I'm sure I'm not on my own.

Mr Pittock, people only reply to your letters as they cannot believe the views you write. I have never read a single letter supporting your opinions. I am neither pro, nor anti, war.

Some wars need to be fought, some could be avoided (such as the Falklands War). On the other hand, I don't see how the Second World War could have been avoided.

The invasion by Afghanistan in the wake of September 11 is a grey area, as I'm sure most people would agree.

What I object to is Mr Pittock's constant carping on about the plight of the "poor" Al Qaida prisoners in Cuba.

I might be wrong, in which case I'd welcome any replies disagreeing with me, but I think I speak for the majority of the population when I say I don't think anyone could actually care less about them.

Most of us have too many worries of our own, such as, will we still have a job this time next year? We worry about our elderly relatives -- are they safe from burglars and muggers? Is it safe for our children and grandchildren to play out? Can we pay our dental and opticians bills, afford prescriptions, get a hospital bed if we need one? The list is endless.

So you see, Mr Pittock, us mere mortals actually don't care if the prisoners are put up in a five-star hotel, or locked up and the key thrown away, as it's out of our hands anyway. Maybe your next letter could feature something a little closer to home?
