ORGANISERS of this year's Adlington Carnival have launched a drive to create miles of smiles and revive a dying tradition.
Carnival bosses are determined to get more floats on the streets for the colourful procession -- said to be the largest in the North West -- and are calling on pubs, clubs, businesses and organisations to get involved.
Carnival press officer Colin Prescott said: "We've started a campaign for more people to put in floats, dress up and have fun. We can give them help and advice."
Colin said shops, businesses and pubs are being targeted to boost what was once a hugely popular feature of the carnival watched by hundreds of folk. "We know interest in waining," added Colin. "I'm in contact with two other carnivals and we are getting ourselves together and helping each other in other ways. It is the only way we are going to survive because costs are astronomical.
"Basically we all have the same problem. The number of entries are going down. We used to get ten or twelve floats, now we get one or two. People don't like to participate any more."
Anyone wanting to put a float in the procession, which sets out from Park Road, Adlington, on Saturday, August 10, at 12 noon prompt, should contact Erica Jackson on 01257 483522.
