FOLLOWING the success of the animated feature film Balto in 1996, Universal Pictures Video has announced the release of a straight-to-video sequel, Balto: Wolf Quest.

It will be available to buy from May 20 (VHS - £12.99, DVD - £15.99).

The legend of Balto is based on a true story about a courageous dog -- half wolf, half Malamute sled dog -- which captured the world's imagination in 1925 when he navigated and led a team of huskies through treacherous conditions to deliver vital medical supplies to a remote village in Alaska.

The unbelievable strength and determination of Balto was celebrated across America in the following weeks and he became a national hero.

Balto the movie was a hit across the US and UK and told the amazing true story of the heroic wolf-dog.

Balto: Wolf Quest continues with a fictional tale of Balto who becomes the proud father of an adorable litter of puppies, all of whom are given away to good homes, apart from one. Little Aleu, the only puppy with her father's wolf features is left alone and soon realises that she will never be accepted in society like her brothers and sisters.

Feeling alone and upset, she runs away to search for her real place in life leaving behind a worried Balto who follows and, finding her in danger, joins her in an epic wolf quest across the wilderness of Alaska.

Meanwhile, brave Balto is haunted by strange dreams involving a mysterious white wolf and a raven, the meaning of which come dramatically to life within the story.

Little Aleu learns three valuable lessons through her adventures with her father, namely that it's okay to be different, girls can be strong too and the importance of families.

Balto: Wolf Quest is a beautifully animated, heart-warming adventure capturing the excitement and drama of life in the freezing, Alaskan wilderness and the tenderness of a unique bond between father and daughter.
