IN Division 1 of the Mixed Tennis League, Holcombe Brook 'A' maintained their top position with another close match, this time with local rivals Hawkshaw 'A'.

Their unbeaten record now stands at 17 matches without a loss and in their present form are definitely out to stay in pole position.

At the other end of the table life is difficult for the newly promoted Longsight Methodist 'A' team, already encountering some hard matches.

No doubt games will be scarce this year, but this is a highly motivated team which produced some spirited play last year to gain promotion and there is not question they will make a fight of it.

Division 2 newcomers David Lloyd Manchester 'A' enjoyed a convincing win over Eagley in week 3, holding the match without losing a set. The final score of 72-21 gives them an added boost in their efforts to do well in this Division. Other notable matches included Holcombe Brook 'B' who played away to Bradshaw 'A' and won in style, 67 - 36.

In Division 3, Next Generation 'A' maintained their form with another stalwart performance, this time against Lostock 'B' on their own turf.

The final score was 66 - 45 which gives them six points to lead the table by two. With this standard and early confidence, Next Generation are strong contenders for Division 2 promotion.

Division 4 early leaders Lostock 'D' had a close encounter with Holcombe Brook 'C' team in week 3.

Next Generation 'B' are top of Division 5 while David Lloyd (Bolton) stay ahead in Division 6.
