BURY Golf Club's highly rated youngster Sean Doherty has underlined just what a hot prospect he is by breaking the course record at Unsworth Hall.
The 18-year-old Holy Cross student returned a 64 gross score in his club's monthly medal competition, bettering the previous record of 65 jointly held by clubmates Paul Hilton, Paul Gethin and Michael Orr.
In doing so he took his handicap from two to one and spelled out his immense potential.
In his superb round Sean registered three bogeys, six birdies and finished off in style with an eagle two on the eighteenth.
Sean, whose father, Sean senior, and brother Kieran are also members at the Bury club, followed his feat up by finishing in a creditable third place in the Lancashire Boys Championship last weekend. D996/11a
