A DRUG addict said to be a fitness fanatic died after injecting himself with a medicine for motion sickness.

Mark Wyatt, aged 42, was found in the kitchen of his friend's home with a syringe in his groin, Bolton Coroner's Court heard.

He was being treated by the town's community drug team, who had prescribed him a daily course of methadone, Coroner Jennifer Leeming was told.

After a spell in prison he was under curfew to be at his home in Moorfield Grove, Tonge Moor, by 7pm.

He visited Mark Markland's house in Tonge Old Road at 5.45pm on September 29, the day he died.

Mr Markland went to the shops and, when he returned 20 minutes later, he found the father of three unconscious. He had injected cyclizine, which has an effect similar to that of tranquillisers.

Mr Wyatt's wife, Susan, said he was a fitness fanatic and "not a typical addict". He began his habit at rave clubs in 1990, taking Ecstasy and heroin.

Pathologist Dr David Bissett said Mr Wyatt was a fit, muscular man. A dose of cyclizine, twice the fatal level, was found in his blood, causing a drugs overdose.

The Coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death.

He said he was surprised when, on the afternoon of his death, Mr Wyatt told him he had obtained some drugs.

There was no evidence of any other substance except a small quantity of alcohol.
