Little Lever professional Sajeewa De Silva has been called up by Sri Lanka for the game against Glamorgan at Cardiff, starting tomorrow.
He was planning to travel down with Unsworth's Sri Lankan professional Pasan Wanansinghe and there is still an outside chance that one of them may force their way into the side for the forthcoming one-day series with England.
De Silva, aged 29, came to Little Lever as a quick left arm bowler but to date it is his batting that has been impressive.
Wanansinghe has just begun his third season with Unsworth. The 31-year-old all-rounder has previously played in a sixes tournament in Hong Kong for his country and turned out against England for a Sri Lankan Presidents XI side. A source close to Sri Lankan coach Dav Whatmore said that both players are well-thought of and have a chance of squeezing into the one-day side if they impress against Glamorgan.
Meanwhile in De Silva's absence, Little Lever are on the lookout for a deputy pro for Saturday's Bolton League game against Westhoughton.
