OH dear me, we are all being stirred up again with the war on words re: FLUORIDE.
First of all may I say how angered I am to read the words of Michael A Lennon, Prof. of Dental Public Health, University of Liverpool School of Dentistry, when he says: "For a small minority of people, fluoridation is a controversial issue."
Well now, if it is a SMALL minority, why did the referendum say NO!
If a referendum is held again next week, the result will still be NO!
Because we do not want it.
Health bosses persist in saying that water fluoridation is THE ONLY WAY to reduce tooth decay.
IT IS NOT.
Let me tell you something. I know three sisters, two of them have beautiful white, perfect teeth, the other has a mouth full of bad teeth.
Why?
Because she spent all her childhood eating toffees, etc, the other two did not, they preferred fruit.
So, instead of dentists forcing mass medication on all of us, let it be up to them and the parents of the children to educate them on what to eat and what to avoid and to take care of their own teeth.
Is it, or is it not, too much sugar and poor dental hygiene that causes tooth decay?
It is bad enough fluoride being in toothpaste, but at least we have the choice whether to use it or not.
I am also still waiting for one of the health professionals to explain why tablets shouldn't be given to children -- a point raised last time.
Funny that!
My referendum vote will be NO!
