zLEVELS of burglary and car crime have fallen in Greater Manchester despite a national increase, new police figures reveal. Figures for March show cases of burglary are down 4.7 per cent from April 2001.
During the last year, there were 5,295 fewer vehicles reported stolen in Greater Manchester -- a 14.2 per cent drop.
Theft from vehicles also fell, with around 522 fewer victims. But police say 999 emergency calls have soared by 11.7 per cent. Greater Manchester's Assistant Chief Constable Alan Green said: "It shows we are continuing to tackle the crimes that affect the quality of life in communities.
"However, we are not complacent and recognise work to cut crime will continue to ensure Greater Manchester is a safer place for everyone."
The figures show 26 forces across the country have experienced a rise in domestic burglary. Some forces have experienced rises of up to 29 per cent.
