IN response to the letter by "Responsible Driver" (Bolton Evening News, May 20).
He or she seems to consider cyclists to be a minority group and, as such, have no right to travel in safety on the roads.
Perhaps the writer could try and cycle along Beaumont Road with two lanes of traffic racing past at 70mph plus, then ride on Moss Bank Way cycle lane -- and notice the difference.
Any safety measures to reduce road deaths must be beneficial. Single lane traffic systems do not result in longer journey times and if there is some emergency -- and I don't mean being late for the school run -- then the sound of a siren will make motorists pull in.
As you said, let's hope common sense will prevail and Bolton Council adopts a safe scheme for Beaumont Road that includes cycle lanes and removes the last "race track" in town.
