AS preparations for the Queen's Jubilee hot up, we should not forget the role of punk rock in the proceedings. After all, amidst the bunting and street parties, 1977 was also memorable for the Sex Pistols' anti-royal anthem God Save The Queen and that infamous gig on the Thames.
Keeping up the anarchic tradition -- and proving punk is far from dead -- local musician Vic Gilmore will be presenting an alternative option to sandwiches and garden parties with this Punk Jubilee next Friday.
The musical event takes place in St Gregory's Social Club in Farnworth (better known as the Phoenix Club in Peter Kay's hit TV series) and will celebrate those creative, influential and rebellious years from 1976 to 1979.
As well as two live bands, an acoustic set and a reading from a poet, there will also be the chance to win an acoustic guitar, a box set of punk CDs and a book charting the history of punk, all of which should result in a lively and nostalgic evening.
It's like Hear'Say never happened...
