THERE is a double programme of league matches in the Bolton Association and Spring View will be hoping it will give them a chance of breaking away at the top writes Peter Mensforth

With third-placed Standish having a day off before meeting top club Golborne, Spring View will hope they take points off each other while they chase a maximum 40 against Atherton tomorrow and at Little Hulton on Sunday.

Neither will be easy games and much will depend on who wins the toss, but Spring View look a solid outfit with the likes of Paul Matthews and Tony Kelly leading with the bat allied to the all-round skills of pro Ian Critchley.

There is little doubt that the two matches could be the highlight of the weekend, especially with Atherton pro Greg Dimery loving nothing better than pegging back top teams, while Little Hulton have a stubborn streak that they hope will ultimately keep Spring View in check.

Meanwhile current leaders Golborne will be looking for points against a Darcy Lever side that is putting its trust in their youth policy tomorrow. Whether Darcy will be strong enough on the day to match the likes of Graham Marston and new pro Lee Baldwin, formerly of Bolton League side Little Lever, will be put to the test but there is a strong belief at Hacken Lane that the side is getting better with every match they play.

The rest of the Association will claim they are still getting to grips with the new season. Daisy Hill, despite scoring a stack of runs, are currently stuck at the bottom and will be looking for their first win of the campaign when they face an Adlington side that has also been slow off the mark.

Walshaw, chasing a fourth championship success, are still in touch with the leading trio and view tomorrow's outing to Lostock as ideal for picking up points.
