TV licence dodgers will be ruled offside during the World Cup campaign as part of a new clampdown in Bolton.
Soccer fans caught illegally watching the showpiece event have been warned they could face fines up to £1,000.
Pubs and homes without licences will also be monitored by TV licensing officers during England's three first-round games.
Last year in Manchester, over 10,000 licence dodgers were caught, 904 more than the year before.
Tim Upton, TV Licensing's regional manager, said: "Why should evaders get to watch the tournament without a TV licence, when the honest majority of fans have paid theirs?"
Detector vans will be out as viewers tune into the World Cup which begins next Friday.
