BOLTON Wanderers Football Academy helped put a smile on the faces of an African school football team with a donation of shirts and footballs.

The Okathitu Combined School in Namibia is linked to Horwich Parish School on Church Street.

The Horwich parish contacted the Wanderers to ask if they could provide footballs for the African team which has poor facilities.

The club's academy invited representatives from the school team to Bolton to collect not only footballs but a strip for each child team member.

Richard Fairclough, from the Horwich Parish CE School, said: "The members who came over from Namibia were absolutely delighted with what the team had to offer the children.

"We had initially approached the team to ask if they could spare just a few footballs for the children to use, and they came up with them and much more besides.

"The team were very grateful and hope to send some photographs of them using the kit back to Bolton."
