IT might not be as important as the Christmas number one, but getting to the top on Jubilee/World Cup week will still be an enviable achievement and Pop Idol winner Will Young and presenters Ant and Dec are both vying for the top spot.
Will's jazzy version of Light My Fire is bound to go down well with fans of the show but the World Cup starts on Sunday so the Geordie tykes are also likely to sell their fair share of records.
Ant and Dec will be on Key 103 with Jo Good on Saturday afternoon, where you can find out what they think about their chances. Speaking of World Cup singles, I reckon that DJ Otzi's version of Hey Baby could prove more popular than Ant and Dec's effort. It's a rousing, beer-swilling song which is an ideal accompaniment to the amount of football, drinking, celebrating and commiserating that will be going on.
Of course, as well as World Cup fever there is Jubilee excitement, which has less to do with the Queen and more to do with two whole days off work! As usual I'll be gigging at the clubs, at Barbarella's in Leigh on Friday and 21 Picadilly on Saturday, after which time I'll be looking to get away for a few days -- at the last minute as usual! I'm hoping for sunnier climes, but if nothing comes up then I'll be sitting at home and drinking myself into a stupor like everyone else. Have a good one!
